Unconventional Fermions: the Price of Quark-lepton Unification at Tev Scales
نویسنده
چکیده
The early petite unification (PUT) of quarks and leptons at TeV scales with sin θW (M 2 Z ) used as a constraint, necessitates the introduction of extra quarks and leptons with unconventional electric charges (up to 4/3 for the quarks and 2 for the leptons). This talk, in honor of Paul Frampton’s 60th birthday, will be devoted to the motivation and construction of models of early unification and to their implications, including the issues of rare decays and unconventional fermions.

Petite Unification of Quarks and Leptons: Twenty Two Years After
A recent surge of interest in the novel ideas of Large Extra Dimensions and their implications, such as the early unification of quarks and leptons, has prompted us to revive a paper [1] written twenty two years ago. In that paper, we provided a general discussion of quark-lepton unification characterized by the gauge group GS ⊗ GW with two couplings gS and gW and by the unification mass scales...
متن کاملPossible reason why leptons are lighter than quarks.
The minimal model of spontaneously broken leptonic colour and discrete quarklepton symmetry predicts that charged leptons have the same masses as their partner charge +2/3 quarks up to small radiative corrections. By invoking a different pattern of symmetry breaking, a similar model can be constructed with the structural feature that charged leptons have to be lighter than their partner quarks ...
متن کاملSolutions of the atmospheric, solar and LSND neutrino anomalies from TeV scale quark-lepton unification
There is a unique SU(4) ⊗ SU(2)L ⊗ SU(2)R gauge model which allows quarks and leptons to be unified at the TeV scale. It is already known that the neutrino masses arise radiatively in the model and are naturally light. We study the atmospheric, solar and LSND neutrino anomalies within the framework of this model.
متن کاملFermion masses in the economical 3-3-1 model
We show that, in frameworks of the economical 3-3-1 model, all fermions get masses. At the tree level, one up-quark and two down-quarks are massless, but the one-loop corrections give all quarks the consistent masses. This conclusion is in contradiction to the previous analysis in which, the third scalar triplet has been introduced. This result is based on the key properties of the model: First...
متن کاملDoubly Lopsided Mass Matrices from Unitary Unification
It is shown that the stratified or “doubly lopsided” mass matrix structure that is known to reproduce well the qualitative features of the quark and lepton masses and mixings can arise quite naturally in the context of grand unification based on the groups SU(N) with N > 5. An SU(8) example is constructed with the minimal anomalyfree, three-family set of fermions, in which a realistic flavor st...
